Power Raking is very beneficial to your lawns health as it opens up the thatch allowing water, air and fertilizer to reach the soil and roots early in the season. This will help your lawn get that needed breathing room for a quick green up.

Power raking involves removing approximately ½ the current thatch as well as any matted debris left over from the previous fall. We leave ½ of the thatch as it acts as a natural barrier to prevent the sun from reaching the soil which helps with water retention. We rake out the edges of the lawn, power rake approximately ¼ inch above the soil and then perform a lawn vacuum to get any debris the power rake missed. You will be left with a very clean looking lawn ready for aeration and fertilizer if desired.

**Please Note – Power raking is very different than dethatching.

Power raking only removes a couple layers of thatch and stays above the soil level. This is the service we perform for our spring clean ups.

Dethatching goes below the soil level to remove all of the thatch and help level the surface on failing or dead lawns. The process is usually followed by a grass seed application to help restart a lawn.

​TJK offers core aeration. This process involves removing ½ inch round plugs of soil from the lawn, approximately 2to 3 inches deep. The plugs that are left on top of the grass and act as a natural fertilizer once they begin to break down with regular mowing.

Core aeration helps loosen tightly compacted soil and allows water, air and fertilizer to reach further down the root structure of the lawn immediately which will result in a faster green up from the winter months.

**Please Note – It is not recommended to dispose of the soil plugs, over time this will lower your soil level and you will be missing out on the added benefit of the plugs decomposing back into the soil providing a natural fertilizer.

Our spring mix fertilizer will feed your lawn the vital nutrients it needs to help bounce back from our extreme winters. When combined with power raking, aeration and regular watering you will notice immediate greening of the lawn which strengthens it for the eventual hot weather in June, July & August.

This service is an add on to any spring service. We use rakes, hand blowers and back pack blowers to remove the majority of leaves, garbage and other debris left over from the fall and winter from the entire yard including garden beds. Includes disposal.
